The launch of the 2012 ‘Olympic’ New Year's Day Swim took place at the St. Brides Spa Hotel this week. During the event, the 2012 shirt was also unveiled and Charlie Shivers was there to welcome this year’s sponsors.
The ‘Olympic’ swim will be the village’s 28th and over recent years the swim has gone from strength to strength raising in the region of £350,000 for charitable and worthy causes.
The 2012 swim shirt is now on sale at Evans’ Newsagents, Saundersfoot. The shirt is again made by Kooga Rugby. As in recent years, Kooga have again changed their world famous logo of ‘Kooga, Made for Rugby’ to ‘Kooga, Made for Swims’. All profits from the shirt will be donated to charity.
Swimmers are invited to come dressed as their Olympic heroes or showing their support for Team GB in red, white and blue. The 2012 swim will start at 12.30pm, not 11.30am as in previous years.
Saundersfoot Festivities would like to thank St. Brides Hotel & Spa for their generous hospitality.

Martyn Williams, Chairman of Saundersfoot Festivities said, ‘The eyes of the world are going to be on Great Britain during the Olympic year so we thought Saundersfoot could take the limelight for one day at least by borrowing the title of Olympic village. The NYDS shirt has become an integral part of promoting the swim and this year’s design and colours reflect that of Team GB. I am delighted with this year’s sponsorship. The financial support is vital for the future of the swim. It will also ensure that every penny raised by the swimmers will be allocated to their nominated charities. The generosity which the businesses have shown towards the sponsorship of the swim has been very much appreciated’.
One of the new sponsors welcomed to the 2012 Swim is Princes Gate Spring Water. The award winning business and NYDS have teamed up to support the Noah’s Ark Appeal, the only charity exclusively raising money for the Children’s Hospital for Wales.
Princes Gate Spring Water has already developed a strong link with the charity and has been supporting it from the start raising in excess of £50,000. As part of this year’s fundraising push for the appeal, David Jones, Managing Director of the company, will be debuting in the 2012 swim.
Martyn Williams said, ‘We all appreciate the importance of the Noah’s Ark Appeal and we are delighted to team up with Princes Gate Spring Water in trying to raise as much money for a very worthwhile charity’.
