Welcome

A New Year’s Day Swim has been organised at Saundersfoot since 1984 by Saundersfoot Festivities. We have so far raised in excess of £335,000 for charitable and worthy causes, and the 2010 Swim raised over £33,000; find out where the money went and more on the 2010 Presentation page.

Anna Ryder-Richardson is seen unveiling the 2010 swim total with ‘Charlie Shivers’ and Martyn Williams (Chairman Saundersfoot Festivities).

One of this year’s beneficiaries was Help for Heroes.  Receiving a cheque for £1,100 is Captain Jonathan Ingledew.

Charlie and the sponsors are seen wearing the new 2010 shirt made by Kooga.

The 2010 rugby shirt is made by Kooga and have been produced by Westcoast (Milford Haven). They display all of the sponsors for the 2010 Swim.  All profits of the shirt will go to Breast Cancer Care Wales.   They are currently on sale at Evans’ Newsagents, Saundersfoot.  For the first time ever Kooga have changed their logo especially for the swim “Kooga Made for Swims’. Over the years, many famous celebrities have been pictured in our shirts - see Stars In Our Shirts.

The swim starts at 11:30am and attracts hundreds of swimmers and thousands of spectators. Many wear fancy dress and all swimmers are presented with a medal. Teams of at least four swimmers receive a framed Blue Tit Award and all swimmers raising at least £100 are awarded a certificate. Four swimmers have yet to miss a swim: Chris Williams, Mick Hamilton, John Joseph and Gethin Evans.

In 2005 the BBC came to film the Swim, and Rachel Treadaway-Williams made a piece for television - watch it here!

If you are holidaying in the Saundersfoot area over the New Year, why not join the swim? Your sponsor form could be used to raise money for any charity of your choice. Your nominated charity would receive every single penny of your sponsor money together with a contribution from the bucket collection.
